House Elevators
There are many different types of house elevators that can be installed within a house to carry either people or to transport items between floors, such as dumbwaiters. Most often house elevators are added to existing buildings because of situations that suddenly occur as a result of some special need. Whether the house elevator is installed to accommodate disabled or elderly persons or simply to assist in housekeeping chores, they can be quickly installed and are not necessarily as expensive as you might believe.
House Elevators Built during Construction
When the house elevator is installed during the construction of a home, the possibilities are literally endless. This is because the builder has the freedom to install an elevator that requires a pit below the surface of the building. In such circumstances you are not limited by space so the elevator can be virtually any size. Also, you can have the elevator built within the home or on the exterior of the house, and It is easier to adapt the elevator to the architectural design of the building. Quite often architects are called upon to plan elevators into the design when building custom made homes, especially when the home is being built for a family with a disabled person.
House Elevators Added To an Existing Construction
Once the home is already built your options are more limited but you still have several options available to you. If you need to allow for a disabled person to get easily up and down the stairs, a simple stairway lift might be called for. Then again, a transparent vacuum lift might be a better option because they are easily installed quite quickly and are also not extremely expensive. This type of elevator is ideal for a home that has a winding staircase. They typically operate on a difference in air pressure and are usually prefabricated so that the elevator can be added to the house within just a couple hours. A minimum of space is required and there are several safety features built into these types of house elevators. Another type of house elevator would be a simple platform lift that can transport wheelchair up one level. These are not very expensive either and would also not require a pit being built underneath the home.
From dumbwaiters to wheelchair lifts, house elevators are built for both necessity and convenience. Families with elderly and disabled members can be confident that everyone can easily get up and down to all levels of the house as safely as possible.
