Construction Elevators

Construction elevators are elevators that are used on high-rise and or new hospitals that are being built. These types of hoists are commonly used to transport personnel, materials, and tools up and down the building numerous times a day. These elevators are designed with hydraulic systems that allow the elevators to move at various speeds. There are many different types of construction elevators.

Mobile Hydraulic Elevator

A hydraulic elevator is a type of elevator that is typically used at construction sites. A common hydraulic elevator that is used for lower levels, generally seven stories or less is called a mobile hydraulic elevator. Because of the lengths of the hydraulic tube, the hydraulics become impractical but because they are often times less expensive, they are still quite popular.

Traction Elevators

Also known as hoist elevators, these elevators are for carrying people. The elevator is set into a track and then it is lifted by a small motor that pulls the steel cables. The hoist elevators or traction elevators are actually part of a building and can be used to move construction workers beyond seven stories. These elevators are generally more expensive than some of the other options.

Construction Lifts

These types of elevators are used to reach height restricted areas without the use of building scaffolding. In most cases, these types elevators are able to be driven to a desired location and the construction worker can be elevated to work at a desired height. There are many different types of construction lifts. For example, a bucket truck or cherry picker is a type of construction lift that is use by utility workers and landscapers. Generally because of the use of cherry pickers around power lines they have been designed to be shock proof and must be inspected regularly.

Articulating Construction Elevator

This is also known as a knuckle lift. It contains a work platform that is mounted on an arm that can move in different directions so it can reach difficult areas. The articulating construction elevator is controlled by the worker who is inside the elevator itself even while the boom is extended from the base which has wheels. The these elevators are available in an electric motor type and/or gas motor, and are able to be used inside and outside depending on the type of tires.

Telescoping Construction Elevator

This type of elevator is a work bucket that is attached on a straight extendable arm. The arm is attached to a rotating base. These sorts of elevators are use for jobs that are at maximum height because they reach higher than most other types. This means that workers can perform repairs or perform their work without having to set up an outside elevator or pulley system. In most cases these type elevators can only hold one person.
