Cost of Residential Elevators

Residential elevators today are very commonly installed in luxury homes across the nation. Many multi-storied homes have elevators to give homeowners a faster and more convenient way to access various floors. Residential elevators are also found very commonly in smaller homes when homeowners have trouble reaching various floors by using the stairs. The elderly and disabled as well as anyone who has mobility problems can have a residential elevator installed to give them more freedom when moving about the home. Of course, the major concern for most is the cost of residential elevators. Depending on the specific model and the features that you choose, your home elevator can cost more than your home.

What Determines Cost?

When choosing an elevator for a luxury home, cost may not be an issue. However, anyone who needs a residential elevator out of medical necessity will find that most insurance companies will not cover the cost and the cost of residential elevators then becomes a major concern. There are many basic models that are very affordable but you have to keep in mind that there are many different factors that determine the overall cost. For instance, certain luxury features such as custom lighting, carpeting and other choices can add substantially to the overall cost. While most elevators for homes have certain safety features in place, many additional safety features are available that will also add to the cost. Other things that influence the cost of residential elevators include the specific type of elevator purchased, the size, weight and person capacity and the specific manufacturer. When choosing a home elevator, if cost is an issue these are things that you should keep in mind. If you select a basic model that provides only the features that you need then you will find it more affordable.

Other Factors to Consider

If the cost of residential elevators is not an issue then you can completely customize the elevator to your liking. There are many luxury features that you can have included such as chandeliers, music and a telephone in the elevator cab. You can basically build your own design. When designing your home elevator there are three areas to consider. These are the cab, door and the control panel. Door choices include steel, glass and even solid wood. Your floors could be hardwood, tile or carpeting and the control panel can be placed wherever it is most convenient for you. If children will be using the elevator you can have the control panel placed farther down the wall for easier access. The choices are virtually unlimited but remember that certain choices will influence the cost so if you are working on a budget then you should choose carefully.

Choosing a Reputable Manufacturer

The main thing to keep in mind when choosing a residential elevator is to select a quality product. While the cost of residential elevators will vary depending on the specific elevator that you choose, quality is much more important than cost. Select a manufacturer that has a good reputation for turning out quality and safe products.
